the Bornholm project ofered particular challenges. New tower was
constructed specially for this windmill. Cor-Ten steel, which shows
a natural, rusty patina when untreated, was chosen as the material.
Apart from the point of liking this or not, the Bornholm people
would never send a tower all the way to Western Jutland to have it
galvanised. They were true island people who wanted to strengthen
their local economy and make their own things. It did not matter
to them whether a wind turbine came from the Vestas domicile, or
from Japan, as long as they had to spend their own money. It was also
an issue of cooperation, something inherent in the culture.

Baltic Power used 9 m blades from AeroStar and locally
produced Cor-Ten steel towers.
Master blacksmith Kai Hermansen was the representative of
the Bornholm consortium. He had a strong engagement in the
project, so strong that sometimes we had to meet at the office of
the trade association in Odense in order to sort things out. Anyhow,
the project led to cooperation and investments in the consortium,
so the values for the island community cannot be unilaterally
measured just by the number of manufactured wind turbines.
