the start of dairies in the end of the 19th century and for Poul
la Cour's rural power stations some decades later. During the
following decades, the legal framework regulating membership
of the cooperatives, depending on consumption and geographical
criteria as well of the taxation rules, were changed several times.

150 kW Micon wind turbine. Micon was established in 1983
as a breakout from Nordtank and soon became an important
player at the Californian market. In 1997, Micon was again
merged with Nordtank in NEG-Micon (left); Despite the
common trend for bigger wind turbines using “the Danish
concept”, experiments were still made with other designs and
smaller wind turbines. Here the wind pioneer Claus Nybroe
is showing his small “Windflower” beside big wind turbines
from German producer Enercon at an international exhibition
at Husum, Germany. Unfortunately, he was ahead of his time.

Already in 1978, wind turbine owners had been organised in
the organisation Danske Vindkraftværker (Danish Wind Power
Stations). DV should take care of the owners' mutual interest in
relation to utilities, authorities and manufacturers. With cooperative
ownership dominating during the 1980s, DV soon became an
important player in the debate and the development. Their monthly
production statistics covering more than 2 000 wind turbines
became a good reference for customers and DV's local members
formed strong support for wind power. It is estimated, that at the
maximum, DV membership involved more than 150 000 Danish
families.
