production facilities in the of-season periods. On a visit to an
exhibition, the Danregn noticed new wind turbines from Vestas and
Nordtank—and tried to get a licence agreement with Nordtank. As
this attempt failed, they decided to develop their own design and
consulted Preben Maegaard among others. The wind turbine was
named “Bonus”, which after some years also became the company
name. Apart from the tubular towers, which also were adopted by
Danregn/Bonus—the basic constructions from the three factories
were very similar—all using Økær blades and following the “Danish
Concept”. Several other producers of wind turbines also entered
the market—some of them with designs, inspired by Riisager, others
adopting the new “Danish Concept” and a few were still working
with other ideas.
The development in these years was characterised by a free
exchange of ideas and experience in open gatherings once or
twice a year, first organised by the Organisation for Renewable
Energy (OVE) in 1976, and from 1978 arranged in cooperation
with the wind turbine owner's organisation (DV). A manufacturer's
organisation (FDV) was established in 1981 and after one year it
had 19 wind turbine manufacturers and 4 producers of blades as
members [20]. An efort to encourage and support Danish small
and medium-sized enterprises to start wind turbine production
was made in 1977 by the Danish Blacksmiths Association (DS) in
cooperation with the NIVE-group and the Folkecenter for Renewable
Energy (established in 1983). Detailed “construction manuals” for
the “Danish Blacksmith Wind Turbine” and assistance with search
for and development of suitable components gave many new
producers (Vind-Syssel, Dencon, Lolland, Hanstholm and others) the
possibility to enter the market. Several others used the Folkecenter
design for local production—Reymo, Ribe Vind, Codan and Meonia,
producing, however, just a single or a few units. The Wind World
was a design spin-of of the Folkecenter concept, with integrated
gear, which was also applied in early Nordex designs of 150 kW and
200 kW windmills.
