VIVRE2 system), stress and performance. The tools destined for the evaluation of
systems were made up of observation grids completed in real time by the researcher
(number of users detected, knocked over, avoided, times when the system was set
off) and questionnaires in the form of Likert

scales (see Table 7.3). A final
questionnaire at the end of the experiment asked the drivers to choose which system
they would advise installing on future trucks regularly circulating in an urban
environment. These questionnaires were completed by feedback in the form of an
individual psychological interview with each driver. The objective of this interview
was to check that situations during which the drivers had potentially knocked over a
vulnerable user had not caused a psychological shock.

Examples of questions comprising the Likert scales
The results of this evaluation on a simulator were very conclusive regarding all
the dimensions that were chosen. The auto-evaluation of the mental work-load of
8 Our Likert scales were presented in the form of a continuous line 10 cm in length, without
graduation and with a description at each extremity. The descriptions are antonyms and the
drivers had to position themselves by drawing a mark with a pencil on the line that they felt
best reflected their evaluation.
