lateral) or by mirror (front view mirror), a directional luminous alarm and a sound
alarm. The luminous diodes (Figure 7.7, top half) are intuitive interfaces only used
to attract attention and direct the gaze of the driver in a given direction. The driver
must not try to understand the significance of the signal, but should look in the
direction of the light to check and confirm the presence of an obstacle via the means
of the available HMIs.

Figure 7.7. Visual interfaces for the rear, front and lateral zones
These interfaces are completed by a common visual interface. Composed of
several information pictograms (Figure 7.7, bottom half), this interface is integrated
to the display cluster of the dashboard. The display is a function of the activated
assistance mode (Figure 7.7): (a) active mode; and (b) informative mode.
The pictograms enable the zone in which a user is detected to be signaled, the
activated assistance mode (immobilizer, emergency breaking, regulator) to be
specified and the system that is functioning (active/informative) to be indicated.
These displays are meant to alert the driver and provide him with an explanation, as
the need may be, when a system is set off.
