their efficiency in use. Without wishing to be exhaustive, but rather representative,
we first of all analyzed the situation, then gave a description of the different possible
contributions. Then we restricted ourselves to the study of the embedded computer,
both fixed and mobile, and to the corresponding HMI. We were also able to review
the different activities occurring in the truck and the bus and in their surroundings,
and we have suggested supporting them, either by a fixed computer, used in priority
as a driving aid, or by a wearable computer supporting activities which occur in
mobility by necessity or convenience. Among these, maintenance & diagnosis to
prevent or repair breakdown is of particular importance. Its contextualization need is
undeniable, as well as the need to learn the steps to carry out at the right moment
(just in time).
M-Learning
(mobility learning) therefore also has a central role. This
work of analysis and proposition, carried out with the students of the Ecole Centrale
of Lyon, led to us conducting three studies in collaboration with Renault Trucks and
in the context of the LUTB competitiveness cluster, the latter two being pre-studies
for collaborative projects between several partners within the LUTB. To finish, we
gave a report of several European projects directly linked to the issue presented, as
well as of (non confidential) work carried out in Renault Trucks. We hope that we
have given the reader a fairly complete vision of the current situation concerning
this issue.

Of course there are numerous other possible approaches, projects, or avenues
worth exploring. We can very briefly give three:
- the role of the urban bus shelter in the vision of a global ICT system, has not
yet been completely explored; it is true that it was attempted at MIT [MIT]
(Figure 6.25), but there is no doubt a lot to be done to give it an appropriate role;
