- the design of basic applications and software tools for the cooperative
management of the urban network, the cooperative management of itineraries and
the dynamic management of lane allocation for buses, to facilitate the work of
drivers and provide a cooperative aid to travelers on the interurban routes, for the
reservation and management of parking zones and loading of utility vehicles, the
monitoring and guiding of dangerous goods and controlling the access of vehicles to
sensitive zones.

The deployment of a range of tools in the form of models, directives and
recommendations in the sectors of franchise and interoperability are also targeted, as
well as: the safe, secure design, which can tolerate faults; the validation of
usefulness, profitability and acceptance by users; the elaboration of cost models,
profits, economic models, risk and responsibility models; cooperative systems as
tools for town policy and deployment road maps.
The CVIS project has broken down the complex aspects which must be dealt
with in order to fulfill its objectives by structuring its activities into three sub-
projects: basic technology, reference applications, on site tests. The first two blocks
can occur in parallel, by developing basic characteristics for software and hardware,
then the integration can lead to the deployment of more and more integrated test
benches, in order to be able to carry out practical tests in the CVIS test sites.
6.11.2.2. BESTUFS I and II, CityLog Projects
The BESTUFS I project ( BEST Urban Freight Solutions ) [BES] (2000-2004)
first of all targeted the deployment of a collaboration network in the context of a
concerted action aiming to share and exchange experiences and knowledge with
colleagues who are in similar positions in other towns as a prerequisite for starting
common projects. This project facilitated the establishment of personal relations and
the broadening of contact networks in the field of urban freight transport for all the
interested parties, with no commitment or formal structures.
