The communication must be correlated with the technologies of appliances,
machines or equipment on which the user wishes to intervene. Three forms of
relation between the computerized accessory and equipment need to be
distinguished (Figure 6.5):
- when the equipment offers no means of connection with the computerized
accessory, it is up to the user to ensure the link between the information provided by
the computerized accessory and the situations that are observed or to be produced
on the equipment (Figure 6.5a);
- when the equipment is able to receive commands via, for example, an infrared
interface, it is possible to establish a unilateral contact from the computerized
accessory to this equipment, to command it. The other way, which should provide
the computerized accessory with information observed on the equipment, remains
the responsibility of the user (Figure 6.5b);
- when the equipment is able to establish a two way communication with the
computerized accessory, it is possible to substitute the interface proposed by the
