A Day in
Charlottenburg
Morning
Begin your tour of Charlot-
tenburg at Breitscheidplatz
and stroll down Kurfürs-
tendamm (see pp24-5) in
a westerly direction. Turn
left into Fasanenstraße to
visit the Käthe-Kollwitz-
Museum (see p83) and to
see the Literaturhaus .
You could stop for a mid-
morning breakfast at Café
Wintergarten (see p86) in
the Literaturhaus, before
going back up Fasanen-
straße in a northerly direc-
tion. On the left you will
pass the Kempinski Hotel
Bristol Berlin , and on the
right you can see the
Jewish House and the
Ludwig-Erhard-Haus. Diag-
onally opposite, on the
other side of Kantstraße,
stands the Theater des
Westens (see p57) . Con-
tinue along Kantstraße on
the left side until you
reach the shopping centre
Stilwerk (see pp60-61) , a
place no one has ever
been known to leave
without buying something!
Kempinski Hotel Bristol Berlin, Fasanenstraße
is the “Bristol Berlin Kempinski”
(see p72) at the northern end of
Fasanenstraße. The Lübbecke &
Co bank opposite cleverly com-
bines a historic building with a
new structure. Next to it are the
Jüdisches Gemeindehaus (Jew-
ish Community House, see p84)
and a little farther along, at the
junction with Kantstraße, is the
Kant-Dreieck (see p41) . Berliner
Börse (stock exchange), based in
the ultra-modern Ludwig-Erhard-
Haus (see p40), is just above, at
the corner of Hardenbergstraße.
The southern end of the street is
dominated by residential villas,
some of which may seem a little
pompous, as well as the Litera-
turhaus, Villa Grisebach, one of
the oldest art auction houses in
Berlin, and the Käthe-Kollwitz-
Museum (see p83) . There are
also some very expensive fash-
ion stores here, as well as a few
cosy restaurants. At its southern
end, the street leads to pictur-
esque Fasanenplatz, where many
artists lived before 1933.

Afternoon
A good place for lunch is
the restaurant Soultrane
(see p87) in Stilwerk shop-
ping centre. Afterwards,
continue along Kantstraße
to Savignyplatz. Now
explore the small streets
around the square, Grol-
man-, Carmer-, Knesebeck-
and Mommsenstraße.
Small shops invite you to
browse and spend your
money, and the Café
Savigny (see p86) is a
good place for a fruit flan
with whipped cream and a
cup of coffee. For the
early evening, Schell (see
p87) is recommended;
here you could try fresh
pike-perch or one of the
Mediterranean dishes.
