Café am Neuen See
The only Berlin Kneipe that
is also a café. The “Italian break-
fast” is opulent and delicious. In
summer, crowds gather in the
vast beer garden. Customers
bring their own food to grill and
sit at the long tables, chatting
over a local beer. d Tiergarten,

Diener, favoured by actors
Zwiebelfisch
A classic of the ageing
Charlottenburg scene, this is
where the last survivors of the
1968 generation prop up the bar
and reminisce about the great
days of the revolution in West
Berlin. The artists in the photo-
graphs on the walls are all past
clients, many of them from the
1968 generation. In the summer,
there are tables outdoors on
Savignyplatz - great for people-
watching and taking in the scene.

Yva Suite
This bar and restaurant is
popular for its superb cocktails
and wines, plus its colourful clien-
tele - mostly actors, film produc-
ers and aspiring writers. The dark
wooden floors and naked walls
are typical for Charlottenburg.

Diener-Tattersaal
An atmospheric pub popular
with local actors, serving draught
beers and traditional German and
Austrian fare. The pub bears the
name of Franz Diener, the leg-
endary boxer who knocked out
the erstwhile boxing world cham-
pion, Max Schmeling.
