Alte Nationalgalerie
The Old National Gallery,
built by Friedrich August Stüler in
1866-76 on the Museumsinsel,
has been completely restored.
Today it holds a collection of
19th-century (and mainly Ger-
man) paintings, including works
by Adolf von Menzel, Wilhelm
Hamburger Bahnhof
A “museum of the present
day , the historic Hamburg Sta-
tion houses modern paintings,
installations and multi-media art.
One of its highlights is the Erich
Marx Collection,
with works by
Joseph Beuys. Apart
from famous artists
like Andy Warhol,
Jeff Koons and
Robert Rauschen-
berg, it also owns
works by Anselm
Kiefer, Sandro Chiao
and others.
