FIGURE 6.6
Variation of specific tensile modulus with increase in fiber volume fraction.
Flexural strength, modulus, specific flexural strength, modulus are
graphically represented against fiber volume fraction in Figs. 6.7-6.10,
respectively. With CT-2 of turmeric fibers flexural strength of turmeric
FRP composites had shown increasing trend with increase in fiber content
whereas in case of turmeric CT-1 FRP composites the maximum value of
flexural strength 90.29 MPa is achieved at 21.01% Vf. f . Highest flexural
modulus of 11.4 GPa is obtained for turmeric fibers CT-1 when compared
with turmeric fibers CT-2 FRP composites. Similar kind of trend is ob-
served in case of specific flexural strength and modulus properties of tur-
meric FRP composites. All the composite specimens have failed due to
bending load only at the outer most layers.
Due to relatively more width of the specimen compared to depth node-
bonding of the turmeric fibers from the matrix is identified. Hence un-
treated turmeric stem, petiole fiber reinforced composites are tested under
impact loading and the impact strength is determined.
