Digital SLR Cameras
Digital SLRs (DSLRs) offer more control and have more features than compact
digital cameras. The most noted of these features is the fact that they offer
the opportunity to change lenses. Other than that, the DSLR offers a range of
modes in which to operate. In manual mode, the DSLR allows a highly flexible
range of functions that include focusing and selecting shutter speeds, ISO
ratings, white balance, and sequencing. Very long exposures are possible with
DSLRs, as are very fast shutter speeds that allow you to capture very fast actions.
Unlike traditional film cameras where the subject's latent image is captured on
the surface of a plastic film coated with light-sensitive material to be processed
and then transferred to a second piece of light-sensitive material, in digital
cameras the image is first captured on a sensor, a charge-coupled device (CCD),
that offers varying degrees of resolution measured in megapixels. This device
responds to light falling onto it in a similar manner to film. After the device
