Sketchbooks come in a variety of different bindings, those that open flat may be better for use on
location, particularly if the size of the sketchbook proves to be a problem. Don't choose sketchbooks with poor
bindings as these will almost invariably fall apart.
There are many very good texts available at reasonable prices to help you
get started with life drawing or more general drawing from life, some of
which are specifically aimed at animators. I have listed a few in the reference
section to help you make your choice. As good as these topics are, there is
little substitute for attending life drawing classes under the guidance of an
experienced drawing teacher. You should be able to find life drawing classes
in most towns. Failing that, you should use these texts as a guide then use
your friends, family, and pets as subject matter.
