nature of sketchbooks and journals are that the results are kept hidden from
prying eyes, which can only encourage a level of risk taking in drawing. It
is important not to get too precious about the use of sketchbooks, though;
the purpose of sketchbook work is to provide a support for practice and
a way of helping practice to develop. They are seldom used as part of the
practice itself.
