In-Depth Information
The range of mouth movements made to articulate a given word or phrase
will vary a great deal and depend not only on the character's physiognomy
but also on the context of what is being said. There are thousands of ways
one can say the same words, each way of which will create various facial
movements. There are few generalizations, but it may be true to say that the
louder one speaks or shouts, the greater the facial movement. This is where
many of the lip sync guides prove inadequate as a template. The illustrations
are generally far too extreme in the mouth shapes and a more subtle version
is often called for, particularly in more naturalistic animation.
The illustration included here demonstrates the differences between a guide
and the actual thing.
