Carrying a heavier object using a single arm may allow the use of the shoulder
muscles to take the stain. Carrying a weight using one arm only may also
result in a lateral shift of the body in an effort to position the additional
weight more centrally over the center of gravity. The arm that is not carrying
the burden will often be held away from the body laterally to create a more
even balance.
