The Hip Region
The pelvic girdle consists of two separate pelvic bones that provide a rigid
structure and a link between the torso and the legs. Each of the pelvic bones
is made up of three separate bones: the ilium, the ischium, and the pubis,
which become fused together around the age of puberty to form a single
entity. The sacrum region of the spine is firmly connected to the pelvic girdle
at the iliac bones by sacroiliac ligaments.
