Cats often hold their tails erect when they walk, though as they begin to
stalk prey, the tail is lowered, as is their entire profile. When a cat runs at
a full gallop, the spine is flexed on the contact point of the run and then
fully stretched with the forelegs extending fully forward and the hind legs
extended backward during the suspension phase. Cats are capable of
demonstrating great agility and balance, as the feat of jumping onto a fence
many times higher than their height clearly demonstrates. Other quadrupeds
such as dogs find more difficulty in such actions.
