Fitzroy, they are, as their name suggests,
extremely treacherous. Several hiking trails
wind through this section of the park.
Getting There
The best way to reach the park is to fly from
Buenos Aires to Río Gallegos and catch a con-
necting flight to Calafete. The second leg of the
journey can also be made by bus. It is a six-hour
ride and a great way to see the countryside.
Valdes Peninsula
Wildlife enthusiasts will find a trip to the
Valdes Peninsula especially worthwhile. Pen-
guins, sea lions, seals, elephant seals,
guanacos, whales, dolphins, rheas, maras, tina-
mous and a host of birds spend the summer
months on this Atlantic peninsula midway
between Buenos Aires and the Straits of Magel-
lan.

Tip
Accommodations and restaurants are
available in Puerto Madryn, the town
nearest the park. Tours can be ar-
ranged here as well. There are camp-
sites within the Peninsula.
Weatherwise, spring and summer are the best
seasons to visit. Seal and sea lion enthusiasts
should plan on visiting during the breeding sea-
