“good enough” for the first update cycle when the “low-hanging fruit”
projects have been harvested and the defenses have been shored up.
Cyclic modernization practices aid in future-state management, because
what is good enough today will not be good enough tomorrow or the
day after. The practice and process of architectural governance must be
continually refined to fit the ever-evolving specifications unique to each
organization.
In the chapters that follow, we will examine the elements of an enter-
prise network in greater depth. The guidelines presented up to this point
should be comfortable and familiar before these elements can be effec-
tively applied to extended network architecture. Before throwing out the
old broom, it may be worth sweeping at the corners one more time to see
what hidden value may be revealed.
