In-Depth Information
HUDs for all of your virtual environments. The objects you make will inform, entertain, and most of all
support the message you have designed for your client.
15.8 CONCLUSIONS ABOUT HUDS
HUDs are incredibly useful when they are designed well and used appropriately. They are more than window
dressing on the screen if they function to support Flow during the user's experience. Designing a good HUD
requires careful planning and execution and perhaps even a specialist on your team. Utilize your imagina-
tion to combine the 2D and 3D experiences and create a holistic experience for your visitor. Unity utilizes a
similar system. In Unity, the HUD is referred to more often as a GUI (graphical user interface). The same art
you create in Photoshop or GIMP for your HUD buttons and labels can be used in Unity along with its native
GUI creator (called UnityGUI) to make your game HUD. For more information on this, refer to the online
Unity Reference Manual under Game Interface Elements [5].
