mode, strength at 50%) to soften the outside edges of the hills onto the surrounding coastal plains. Use the
smudge tool and the blur tools to blur the edges of the coastline into the ocean bottom so the coast drops
off gradually. When you like how it looks, put an overall Gaussian blur of 3 pixels on the image, to further
smooth the terrain as shown in Figure 5.11. You can see the inal result of this step in the ile Step3_Wheely
Island.raw, from the Chapter 5 content. Save your inal as “Wheely_Island.raw” for use in the irst upload of
your terrain.
5.4.1.4 First Upload of Your Terrain
Upload the last Wheely_Island.raw ile through the Region/Estate menu, under the Terrain tab, and look at
Figure 15.12 for an example of what this looks like. This process may take anywhere from 1 minute to 15 minutes
depending on your Internet connection and trafic on the server. Make sure your avatar is hovering above the
ground, not standing on it, when the terraforming is going on; otherwise, you might be thrown up into the air.
5.4.2
r efining The T errain
Now that you have loaded the terrain onto your region and watched it magically appear, disable the camera
constraints under the Advanced Menu tab (Ctrl+Alt+D to make this show) so you can pull back to see the
whole sim and examine for the need for reinements. You may also have to increase the draw distance in the
Avatar/Preferences menu.
