same game on TV, although we probably see the game much better on
TV. Public viewing on a town square has the same effect. All the brain
frequencies of the sports fans present start to align, even if you don
t
especially appreciate that sport and just join because you like the social
activity. The same happens during a turnaround in a chemical plant,
when hundreds of employees and contractors work together and try to
stick to a very tight time plan. For those working, the turnaround
boosts energy. Tiredness only comes when the plant is working again
and everyone is allowed to feel his own tiredness. Our mirror system
(see Chapter 8, important in model learning) is able to

activity levels of other people. Our brain has a tendency to adapt to
this level, just to belong to the group. It is an automated process.

It is possible to vary alertness with talk, self-talk, and a physical or social
atmosphere.
Unfortunately, we can see the same happen when a team has an off
day. Sports fans know that their favorite team, although it is the best
of the league at that moment, can deliver a terrible performance during
one or a few games in a row without being able to explain what is hap-
pening. In such a situation, they either drag each other into a bad
modus or they have lost their ability to align due to internal conflicts,
for example.

Case 2
A very nervous student, who is about to go for his driving examina-
tion, can become more relaxed if a calm instructor is able to give him
one last lesson just before the exam.
