In-Depth Information
only way to compensate for selective absorption of feedback into self-
image is by receiving confrontational feedback from others. As people
are always to some extent reserved in giving straightforward feedback,
this usually doesn
t happen very often. In other words, we seldom get
a reality check from our outside world, especially in our work environ-
ment. It is therefore a task of the safety buddy to help the newcomer
in developing a realistic self-image on safety behavior.
'
Case 2
We often complain about the recklessness of other drivers and while
driving even use abusive words aloud as if these other drivers could
hear us, but we seldom reflect on our own poor driving. If we do
something stupid or drive in a risky manner, we can always think of a
good reason for why we acted the way we did.
