The hip-knee-ankle-foot orthosis (HKAFO) has been used for reconstruction
of paraplegic gait. In Western countries, reconstruction of paraplegic gait with the
HKAFO equipped with bilateral lateral-sided hip joints and hard pelvic support,
such as the hip guidance orthosis (HGO: Fig. 3.1 ) and the reciprocating gait or-
thosis (RGO: Fig. 3.2 ), has been the mainstream appliance (Major, (1981); Douglas,
