13.2.3 Other Capsules
Since the emergence of PillCam, other companies and groups would like to
share the market of capsule endoscopy by putting forward their own systems.
Competition is likely to stimulate new technical developments which may make
capsule endoscopy cheaper.
Besides Endocapsule by Olympus company, ChongQing JinShan Science &
Technology Co. Ltd developed OMOM Capsule Endoscopy System OMOM. The
system has gone through three technical design changes with improved image
quality and lower cost than other systems. It has obtained CE Mark fromEuropean
Union and permission for marketing in China. MiRoCam implemented by In-
troMedic Co. Ltd MiRoCam includes a novel transmission technology of electric-
field propagation to take the place of radiofrequency (RF) data transmission, and
results in saving power. The capsule is currently under clinical trial (Bang et al.
2009).
Table 13.1 and 13.2 list the major specifications of the capsules from different
companies, including both approved products and those under clinical trial.
