stability. In IL-functionalized conducting polymer, the properties
of the film may be changed by varying the type of anion.
Polymerization of conducting polymers in viscous polymeric
ILs provides a possibility of synthesis without any supporting
electrolyte, since polymeric IL is both the polymerization template
and the doping agent. Studies in IL-assisted synthesis of conducting
polymer/noble particle composites have shown that these methods
are promising in catalytic and electronic applications. Since carbon
nanotubes and graphene sheets are easily dispersible in ILs,
improvement in the quantity of the material production during
synthesis can be expected. The size and distribution of metal
nanoparticles can be controlled by changing water content in ionic
liquid, sonication time, or applied potential. The fast development of
ionic liquids in electrochemical applications is connected with their
tunable properties that can meet different requirements of materials
synthesis. This trend can be predicted to continue also in the future.
