Select the Refine Radius tool.
Paint around the hair area.
6 If you cannot see the details in the hair area, use the Zoom tool located in the upper-left area of the
Refine Edge dialog box to zoom in to the section that you just refined.
It is possible to over-refine an area by brushing too far into the image area that you want to select. If
that occurs, erase your refinements.
7 Press Shift+E; notice that your cursor now has a - (minus sign) in it instead of a + (plus sign). You just
switched to the Erase refinement tool. Alternatively, you can also use the Erase refinement tool ( ) by
clicking and holding the Refine Radius tool. Experiment by brushing with the Erase Refinements tool.
Press Shift+E to return to the Refine Radius tool if you need to retouch the area again.
8 Once you have a selection, choose Layer Mask from the Output To drop-down menu in the Output
section of the Refine Edge dialog box.
9 Click OK; notice that the Background layer is now Layer 0 and has a layer mask.
Choose Layer Mask from the Out To menu.
A layer mask has been added based upon your selection.

10 Choose File > Save, and then choose File > Close.
