4 At this point, you can paint directly on the texture, but you will generate a pattern quickly using Fil-
ters. Select Filter > Render > Clouds to create some clouds. To make these clouds more intense,
choose Filter > Render > Difference Clouds. Now press Ctrl+F (Windows) or Command+F (Mac OS)
several times to reapply that Difference Clouds filter.
5 Press Ctrl+S (Windows) or Command+S (Mac OS) to save the texture, and then close this file. The 3D
scene is now visible and there is a faint bumpiness on the surface of the Sphere object.
6 Change the Bump setting in the Properties panel to 20% to make the Bump texture more prominent.
Textures can be applied to add more visual detail to 3D objects.
Painting a 3D object
You can also use the Brush tool ( ) in the Tools panel to paint onto any 3D object that has a defined tex-
ture. In this example, you will paint directly on the reflectivity texture for the Sphere object, making
some parts of the surface less reflective than others.
1 Select the Sphere_Material listed under the Sphere object in the 3D panel.
2 Choose the texture map menu for the Reflection setting in the Properties panel. Choose New Texture,
and in the New dialog box, set the width and height to 512 pixels. Click OK.
3 Click 3D > Paint on Target Texture > Reflectivity. This will assign any painted colors to the reflectiv-
ity textures for the objects.
4 Select the Brush tool ( ) in the Tools panel, right-click the canvas to open the Brush context menu, and
change your brush settings. Change the brush size to 50 pixels and the hardness to 0 (zero).
5 Paint directly on the Sphere object. Note that the intensity of the reflections is reduced where you are
painting. Use the Camera tools to change your viewing angle and paint the backside of the object.
6 To remove the painted texture, select the texture map menu for the Reflection setting in the Properties
panel and click Remove Texture. The texture is deleted.
