In the next step, you will revert to save so you can test the action again, confirming each step as it oc-
curs. This will give you an opportunity to see the types of functionality that can be saved in an action.
5 Choose File > Revert to revert the advps1101_work.psd file back to the last saved version.
6 In the Actions panel, notice that there is a Toggle dialog box on/off button ( ) to the left of the Gradi-
ent map action. Click the toggle button to turn on dialog boxes when the action is next run. If a warn-
ing appears, click OK.

7 Click the Play selection button again and note that a New Snapshot dialog box appears. The settings
were already made for this action when it was originally recorded, so you can just click OK. Next, a
New Layer dialog box appears followed by a Gradient Map dialog box. Continue clicking OK to see
all the steps that were recorded in that action. As you can see, by turning on the Toggle dialog box,
your action stops at each step to allow you to edit the settings before moving on.
8 Click the expansion arrow to the left of the Gradient Map action to see the steps in a list.

9 Choose File > Save. Keep this file open for the next part of the lesson.
Creating your own action
In this next exercise, you will record a sequence of steps and save them as an action. Your sequence of
steps will apply some effects to your text layer.
1 With the advps1101_work file still open, select the Get the Beat layer. You will now create a new set,
or folder, in which to save the actions you create.
