Opening the image
In this lesson, you'll start with a beach image and finish with a postcard that includes vector masks, text,
and shapes.
1 Choose File > Open and navigate to the advps09lessons folder. Locate and open the file named ad-
vps0901.psd . An image of a sand snowman appears.
2 Choose File > Save As. In the Save As dialog box, type advps0901_work into the Name text field;
make sure the format stays as Photoshop (PSD) and that you are saving into the advps09lessons
folder. Click Save.
Starting with a vector shape
In this part of the lesson, you'll create a simple rectangle. You'll then integrate it into the image using
Photoshop tools, such as masks and blending modes.
1 With the advps0901_work file still open, select the Rectangle tool from the Vector tools section of the
tools panel (directly above Hand tool).
2 If you cannot see your entire image, press Ctrl+0 (zero) (Windows) or Command+0 (Mac OS).
3 Choose View > New Guide. In the New Guide panel choose Vertical, and then type 50% into the Posi-
tion text field.
4 With the Rectangle tool click and drag from about the 50% mark to the right side of your image.
