In-Depth Information
Israel's pre-1967 capital of Jerusalem is the area west of the heavy black line. In 1967, Israel captured the
eastern part of the city, which Jordan had annexed in 1950. The city was reunited, and Israel annexed the
eastern part. In subsequent negotiations, starting in 1993, Israel indicated a readiness to negotiate the fu-
ture, and future boundaries, of the eastern part of the city. The plan that Israel put forward during the Camp
David talks in 2000 included a suggestion that in return for full peace, Israel would give control over most of
east Jerusalem to a Palestinian state. (© 2003-2010 Koret Communications Ltd. All rights reserved.)
