Figure C-9. Exporting from OpenSCAD Inkscape DXF Export (shown on
MacOS)
For best results, when you create a new document in Inkscape,
start each new drawing in mm by selecting: File New de-
fault_mm. This will help eliminate units confusion when im-
porting DXFs into OpenSCAD.
Inkscape to OpenSCAD Converter v2
Dan Newman, who also helped create the popular Sailfish firmware, has also
created a impressive cross-platform extension to export Inkscape paths di-
rectly to OpenSCAD. The Inkscape to OpenSCAD Converter v2 ( http://
www.thingiverse.com/thing:25036 ) can handle SVG arcs, clones, circles, el-
lipses, groups, lines, paths, polygons, polylines, rects, and splines. In addi-
tion, it also follows document transforms as well as viewports.
You can process an entire document or just the selected portions of a file. It
then creates editable extruded polygons in OpenSCAD file format. You can
skip using linear_extrude all together, this program writes the code for you.
Installing this extension is very similar to installing Inkscape OpenSCAD DXF
Export, except you are changing the name of the file you are moving to the
Inkscape extensions folder.
