If you are using a digital camera with exposure controls, you
can use the following settings to minimize exposure problems:
• AV mode (aperture priority) to lock the F-Stop
• M mode (manual) for complete control
• The shutter speed should be 1/60 second or faster
Some phone cameras, like that in the iPhone 4S and 5 have
built in exposure controls. If you are using the 123D Catch
iPhone application, try tapping the screen to set the focus/
exposure before taking each capture. We are getting great re-
sults with the camera in the iPhone 4S, as it controls the ex-
posure quite well.
Direct light alters the exposure by creating shadows and reflective spots. The
more consistent the exposure of the photographs, the more consistent your
model. We found that may of our best Catches were shot on overcast days
or at dusk. Consider planning your outdoor catches around these light con-
ditions for best results.
Maintain depth of field, focus, and orientation
Blurry images will not produce accurate Catches. If any of your images
are blurry, retake the image before submitting the photos for processing.
On the iPhone/iPad, you can review and retake images before submit-
ting them for processing. If you are using a digital camera, make sure to
review your images before leaving the scene of the Catch.
