THREE STYLES OF TEMPORARY ELECTRIC FENCING

style, and a tape style, and there are a variety of types on the market that vary
by weight, size, color, and number of strands. Polywire (in all its varieties)
doesn't last forever, but the better-quality brands last much longer than the
cheaper brands found in discount stores. In our experience, the cheap kinds
become virtually useless in 3 to 5 years, whereas the better brands last about
10 years.
Polynet is a great temporary fence alternative for sheep, especially if you
want to move them into an area that isn't well fenced on the perimeter. We
always “mowed the lawn” in Minnesota — where lawns need mowing at least
once a week in the summer — with some of our ewes and lambs in a polynet
enclosure. These fences have built-in posts.
Soft steel cable is another alternative that's especially attractive for semi-
permanent installations, such as lanes and permanent paddock subdivisions.
