given site. The main functions of creek channels
(French 1996) are to:
. supply and disperse fine sediment;
. provide efficient drainage and de-watering of
sediments;
. dissipate tidal energy inputs.
The major creek channels within the site can be
designed using empirical relationships between
cross-sectional area and tidal prism or discharge
(as proposed by O'Brien 1931; Myrick and Leopold
1963). For creeks within saltmarshes this process
can be reduced to consideration of the plan area by
