In-Depth Information
there is a need to focus on understanding change, learning from the past,
using a broad spectrum of knowledge, while identifying major factors that
will shape the global future and evaluating their probabilities and potential
impacts. When a global issue comes to light through the media, it is not
enough to simply ask a question like whether visitor numbers will increase or
decrease. The tourism development process needs to be understood within a
much broader context. It has been argued here that international studies
offers an integrated perspective to examine the nature of tourism in the devel-
opment process, in the context of our ever increasing connected global world.
