Under other circumstances, the subject of reading electronic topics on a
device would warrant a few paragraphs, or maybe an extended sidebar.
But the iPad's handheld form factor and large storage capacity makes it
an attractive ebook reader. It wouldn't surprise me if some people view
the iPad primarily as an ebook reader that also happens to do other stuff.
Instead of packing a tote bag bursting with hardcovers on your next
vacation, Apple's iBooks app offers an attractive alternative: Store digital
versions of topics on the iPad, and connect to the iBookstore to buy new
ones when you need more. And ebooks aren't just plain text anymore—
the iBookstore now offers illustrated topics that range from children's
picture topics to fine arts as well as titles with embedded video.
