desert. In Chap. 2 Mclaurin et al. detail the stratigraphic setting of this arid site
while in Chap. 3 Eliott et al. discuss the origin and formation of a diverse artifact
layer that spans over 13,000 years at the site. In the final chapter Torres and
Harrelson take us to the Red River, Louisiana and provide a longterm perspective
on the development of a large naturally formed logjam and the historic efforts to
clear it and control the river.
