6.1.2 Musculature
The muscles of flexion include the sartorius, gracilis and sartorius which insert
on the proximal medial aspect of the tibia as a group known as the pes
anserinus (goose foot). The lateral knee flexor is the biceps femoris, which
inserts on the fibular head. The medial knee flexor is the semi membranosis
which inserts on the posterior proximal tibia. Collectively, the main flexors are
known as “hamstrings”.

Rotational stabilizers include the popliteus and ITT, as well as contributions
from the pes anserinus group. An overview of anterior and posterior knee
musculature is represented in Figs 6.3 and 6.4.
