b) Townley Hemi Surface Replacement
Another variation, simlar to the Judet device except for a shorter curved stem was
introduced by Townley in the late 1940's [24]. It is shown in Fig. 5.10.

c) Austin-Moore
Austin-Moore introduced the concept of fixing a head replacement (having an
intramedulary straight stem) by press fit into the femoral shaft. The proximal
section of the stem was fenestrated in the hope that ingrowth would help stabilize
the implant [25]. Several variations of this concept were developed and are still
sold today for hemi replacement but fixtured by cement rather than press fit.
d) The Thomson Femoral Component
The Thomson femoral component used a shorter curved stem [26].
