If you need to shorten one of the directional lines to achieve the small curve on the underside of the
petal, press and hold the Alt key (Windows) or Option key (Mac OS) and push it into the anchor
point. Try to keep it on the same angle.
For this next path, you need to change the smooth anchor point you just created to a corner point.
6 Press and hold the Alt key (Windows) or Option key (Mac OS) and click the last anchor point you cre-
ated. Pull the directional line so it follows the side of the next petal.
Press and hold the Alt/Option key to change the last anchor point to a corner point.
7 Now that you have seen how to follow the basic path, continue using these techniques to complete your
path around the rest of the flower. You don't need to follow the path exactly; using the Pen tool takes a
lot of practice.

8 Choose File > Save; keep the file open for the next part of this lesson.
Saving the path
While you were creating your path, a work path was created in the Paths panel. You will now save that
path.
1 Note that after you create a path, you can see a line that indicates that the path is active. Choose Win-
dow > Paths to open the Paths panel; notice that you created a Work Path and that it is highlighted.
