In-Depth Information
2 Choose File > Open, or File > Browse in Bridge. From the ps09lessons folder, open the image of the
doghouse named ps0903.psd . You will check the image size of this image using one of the menu items
at the top of the Photoshop workspace.
3 Choose Image > Image Size; the Image Size dialog box appears.
The Image Size dialog box shows Width and Height in increments that you choose. For this lesson, you
will use Pixels. If Pixels is not selected, click and hold the Width increments drop-down menu and se-
lect Pixels.
The increments that you choose to measure by typically relate to whether you are creating on-screen
images, or images that will be printed on various devices.
The most important factors for size and resolution of on-screen images are the pixel dimensions and
the pixels per inch (ppi). If you are creating an image for print (in the U.S.), you should change
your increments to the print measurement that you prefer and also reference the Resolution. Typic-
ally, for high-quality printing, you would need your image to be close to actual print size and at
least 266 ppi in resolution.
4 The image size of the doghouse is 1,242 pixels by 1,546 pixels. At this size, the doghouse image is
much larger than the other two images. This would be apparent if you were to combine the two files.
5 In the Image Size dialog box, make sure that there is a constrained closed chain ( ) to the left of Width
and Height text fields. Also, make sure the Resample Image is set to Automatic.
6 If the Width and Height increments are not set to Pixels, select Pixels from the increment drop-down
menu now.
7 Type 700 pixels for height in the Pixel Dimensions portion at the top half of the dialog box. Click OK to
apply the transformation and click OK to close the Image Size dialog box.
Change the Width to 700 Pixels.
8 The doghouse should now fit nicely with the dog in the other image.
Combining the images
For this project, you'll drag and drop the image of the doghouse into the image with the dog and grass and
sky.
