In-Depth Information
In this lesson, you'll use multiple images to create a composite image that you will then save for both print
and online use. While this lesson covers some basic information about working with files for online distri-
bution, you can learn even more about saving files for the web in Lesson 13, “Creating Images for Web,
Video, and Interactive Use.”
A look at the finished project
In this lesson, you will develop a composite using several images, while addressing issues such as resolu-
tion, resizing, and choosing the right file format.
To see the finished document:
1 Choose File > Open, or File > Browse in Bridge, and navigate to the pslessons folder on your hard drive
and open the ps09lessons folder.
2 Double-click the ps0901_done.psd file that is located in the ps09lessons folder; the completed image is
displayed in Photoshop.
The completed lesson file.
3 Make sure that the Layers panel is active by choosing Window > Layers.
4 Click the visibility icon ( ) to the left of the dog layer to hide the layer. Click the box where the visibil-
ity icon used to be to make the layer visible again.
As mentioned in the previous lesson, layers allow you to combine different elements into a single file
while retaining the ability to move and modify each layer independently of the others. Layers appear in
the same stacking order that you see in the Layers panel; this is why the dog is on top of the image of
the sky and the doghouse. In this lesson, you'll use some of the skills you discovered in Lesson 8, “In-
troduction to Photoshop Layers”, to create multiple layers in Photoshop just as the ones in this finished
file.
5 You can keep this file open for reference, or choose File > Close to close the file. If a Photoshop warn-
ing box appears, choose Don't Save.
Opening existing image files
Now you will assemble all the images that are part of the final combined image.
1 Choose File > Browse in Bridge and navigate to the ps09lessons folder you copied onto your system.
