the suppliers can be benchmarked. KPIs can capture best practice dem-
onstrated by good-performing suppliers. Good practice can then be used
to inform and coach poor performers to promote collaborative working,
supplier development and overall performance improvement.
Creating appropriate KPIs from a project vision and scorecard
The objective is to create a suitable number of KPIs to encourage behav-
iour and performance to meet the client's aspirations for a complex
programme of construction. Having established the strategic goals and
associated critical success factors (CSFs) at the beginning of the pro-
gramme, KPIs need to be identified that underpin the strategic goals and
relate to the CSFs. These KPI measures are linked to the vision state-
ment shown at the top of Figure 3.7. For example, the vision statement
includes delivering a sustainable legacy. That translates into a number
