HOLIDAYS AND SPECIAL EVENTS AT WALT DISNEY
WORLD
YOU CAN'T BEAT THE HOLIDAYS FOR live entertainment, special events, parades, fire-
works, and elaborate decorations at the theme parks and resort hotels. Unfortunately,
you also can't beat holiday periods for crowds. A mom from Ogden, Utah, puts it this
way:
We know the lines will be outrageous, but the special shows, parades, and
decorations more than make up for it. For first-timers who want to see the
rides, Christmas is not ideal, but for us it's the most colorful and exciting
time to go .

Here's a look at the larger special events and major holidays at Walt Disney
World.
JANUARY Usually held the second weekend after New Year's, the Walt Disney
World Marathon pulls in more runners and their families every year. In 2014, more
than 50,000 runners participated in the event—enough people to affect crowd con-
ditions and pedestrian traffic throughout Disney World. Information on all Disney
running events can be found at rundisney.com ; also check wdwtoday.com podcast
archives for in-depth coverage and tips.
Each year the China Pavilion in Epcot has a Chinese New Year celebration
(which is usually in late January or early February). There are typically Chinese ac-
robats and special activities for kids.
FEBRUARY Black History Month is celebrated throughout Walt Disney World with
displays, artisans, storytellers, and entertainers. The Kinsey Collection at Epcot's Un-
ited States Pavilion is a highlight.
