In-Depth Information
Space Mountain is one of Walt Disney World's zippiest (and darkest) rides, lasting
just under 3 minutes and including numerous abrupt turns and plummets. However,
the top speed is only about 28 mph, a leisurely pace by 21st-century standards.
Space Mountain involves sudden blackouts, as do many thrill rides at Disney
World. Those who suffer from claustrophobia (Liliane), who tend to panic in the dark
(Liliane), or who have vision problems with extremes of light and darkness (Liliane)
should avoid this attraction, as should those with neck or back problems or vertigo.
Plunged into darkness and bouncing around like a marble in a spittoon, many warmly
recall Space Mountain as the longest 3 minutes of their lives. Your kids will love it.
As a headliner, Space Mountain goes through periodic refurbishments to add ef-
fects and maintain ride quality. Past improvements include new lighting and effects,
an improved sound system and soundtrack, and interactive games in the queue to help
pass the time in line. It may just be from hearing asteroids whiz past your vehicle, but
we think the current ride is slightly faster than it used to be. If you don't catch Space
Mountain first in the morning, use FastPass+ or try again during the 30 minutes be-
fore closing.
I dream of riding Space Mountain at the pace of Spaceship Earth in Epcot.
At last, I would be able to enjoy the twinkling lights.
