AT THIS POINT YOU'RE PROBABLY WONDERING HOW
a hotel outside Walt Disney World
could be as convenient as one inside Walt Disney World. Well, Mabel, Disney World
is a
muy largo
place, but like any city or state, it has borders. By way of analogy, let's
say you want to stay in a hotel in Cincinnati but can't find one you can afford. Would
you rather book a hotel in Toledo or Cleveland, which are both still in Ohio but pretty
darn far away, or would you be willing to leave Ohio and stay just across the river
from Cincy in Covington, Kentucky?
Just south of Walt Disney World on US 192 are a bunch of hotels and condos,
somegreatbargains,thatareclosertoAnimalKingdomandDisney'sHollywoodStu-
dios than are many hotels in Walt Disney World. Similarly, there are hotels along Dis-
ney's east border, FL 535, that are exceptionally convenient if you plan to use your
own car.
Lodging costs outside Walt Disney World vary incredibly. If you shop around,
you can find a clean motel with a pool within a few minutes of the World for as low
as $40 a night. You also can find luxurious, expensive hotels. Because of hot compet-
ition, discounts abound.
GOOD NEIGHBOR HOTELS
SOME HOTELS PAY DISNEY
a marketing fee to display a “Good Neighbor” designation.
Usually a ticket shop in the lobby sells full-price Disney tickets. Other than that,
the designation means nothing for the consumer. It doesn't guarantee quality—some
Good Neighbor hotels are very nice, others not so much. Some are close to Walt Dis-
ney World, while others are quite far away. Disney requires Good Neighbor hotels to
provide free shuttle service to Walt Disney World but prohibits them from offering
shuttle service to Universal or SeaWorld.
