All loops have a comfort station with showers, toilets, phones, an ice
machine, and a coin laundry.
Fort Wilderness is ideal for nature lovers. For the less active, electric carts are for
rent. Also available are pools, a marina, a beach, and outdoor games such as basket-
ball, volleyball, shuffleboard, fishing, canoeing, biking, and even tennis and horse-
back riding. If you really get into the mood, you can sit around the evening campfire
and watch a movie with the other happy campers. The campsites are the only accom-
modations that allow you to have pets (not running loose, of course).
Here's what you
can't
do: drive anywhere within the campground, not even from
your campsite back to the trading post. You must take the bus, bike, or golf cart (both
are for rent), or walk (it's not far). And bus or boat transportation to the theme parks
can be laborious.
Obviously, Fort Wilderness draws a lot of families (did we mention the petting
farm and the hay rides?), and in hot weather, a lot of bugs and thunderstorms. If you
want things a little more comfortable, ask for a full-service hookup and get water,
electricity, an outdoor grill, sanitary disposal, and even a cable-TV connection. If you
want super privacy and even more amenities, rent one of the prefab log cabins, which
get you a full kitchen, housekeeping services, air-conditioning, a daily newspaper,
voice mail, and, yes, cable TV.
